BIBDAY - Bible verse of the day program for DOS - (c) 1993 by Robert Woeger
All rights reserved
*** Summary of BIBDAY ***
BIBDAY Version 1.0 is a useful Bible Verse of the day program. It displays
a random Bible Verse each time it is run. It will help to brighten your day
and pick you up. You can set the BIBDAY program to run every time you boot
your system if you like. That way your PC will greet you with a message
of encouragement and inspiration each time you turn it on. You can also
use it to display a verse when you run certain applications or batch files
also. It has many uses. You can configure the color of the text of the
Bible Verses also. You can optionally have it clear the screen before the
verses are displayed. You can add your own Bible Verses by using a standard
ASCII text editor such as EDLIN or EDIT. That way you can see your
favorite verses each time you run BIBDAY. You can choose to pause the screen
after the verse is displayed or let the screen scroll.
*** Distribution of BIBDAY/Cost of BIBDAY ***
This version, BIBDAY 1.0, is distributed using the shareware software
distribution method. The author, Robert Woeger, owns the copyright on this
program and will allow anyone to distribute the BIBDAY program as long as the
following simple rules are followed:
1) All people are encouraged to give copies of this shareware
version of BIBDAY away to others. You may charge a reasonable disk
duplication fee if you are a shareware vendor (not to exceed $8/disk).
CD-ROM publishers are free to include BIBDAY on their shareware
CD-ROMs. On-line services and bulletin board systems may freely
distribute the shareware version of BIBDAY even if they charge an
access fee to use their systems. You may not sell copies of BIBDAY -
only the author may receive payment for use of BIBDAY.
2) You may use this program for a trial period not to exceed 30
days. At the end of the 30 day trial period you must either pay
the author, Robert Woeger, for the right to continue to use the
program or stop using BIBDAY altogether. Upon payment to the author
you will receive a special registered version of BIBDAY that does not
have the "Unregistered shareware version line" at the top of the
screen, plus you will receive the latest version of BIBDAY. Also
you will know that you have done the right moral and legal thing.
As the Bible says "For the worker is worth his wages" Luke 10:7, and
the author has the legal right to expect payment for his work in
writing this program.
3) Tell others about BIBDAY! Give it away to help spread God's Word
into other people's lives. If you or your church or ministry would
like a special registered version of BIBDAY to distribute as part of
your evangelism or fund raising program(s) please contact the author
for details. I am very receptive to working with ministries and
churches about licensing BIBDAY for your fund-raising or evangelism
needs. This special registered version of BIBDAY I have available
is a pre-paid license so people you send it to or give it to don't
have to pay me an additional shareware fee.
4) You MAY NOT distribute any other versions of BIBDAY to others
(i.e. Registered version, Special Evangelism version, etc.) unless
you have a special license from the author to do so. This shareware
version is the ONLY version that you may distribute. If the logo on
the top of the display says registered copy, please do not distribute
it. Thank You.
5) This program and all its files are distributed on an "AS IS" basis
with no warranties provided. The author has tested the programs on
his PC but can not vouch to how they will act on your computer. The
author will in no way be liable for any accidental damage or misuse
caused by these programs.
6) When you distribute this shareware version of BIBDAY to others,
you MUST ONLY distribute the original files that came with BIBDAY.
You MAY NOT add, remove, or modify any of the files you give to
others! That includes the BIBVERSE.DAY text verse file! You may
modify the BIBVERSE.DAY file for use on your own PC and for use
on machines you have a registered licensed copy of BIBDAY for, but
you MAY NOT distribute modified copies of BIBVERSE.DAY or the other
program files included with the BIBDAY package. Disk vendors may add
their own supplemental documentation or information files to the disk
but may not modify or delete any of the original distribution files.
*** Note: The following references are made immediately following the
Bible verse reference to specify which version of the Bible the verse is
taken from. Each version except the King James Version is copyrighted

*** Documentation for BIBDAY's features and how to set it up ***
BIBDAY is very easy to set up. It is all ready to run and go as is. You
should have the following files on your disk when you receive BIBDAY (DOS
version):
BIBDAY.EXE - run this program - main BIBDAY verse display program
BIBVERSE.DAY - text ASCII file containing verses to be displayed
BIBDAY.DOC - Documentation (this file) for BIBDAY
BIBCOUNT.EXE - simple utility to run to count the number of verses in your
BIBVERSE.DAY file (useful when you have added some verses)
PAYFORME.DOC - text file to be used to order a registered copy of BIBDAY
If you obtained BIBDAY as a .ZIP format, you will need to unzip it first to
get the above files.
BIBDAY may be run by simply typing the word BIBDAY in the directory where
both the BIBDAY.EXE program and the BIBVERSE.DAY file reside.
BIBDAY.EXE may also be called from any other directory, batch file, your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file, etc. Simply specify the program in your PATH statement
or type the complete drive and path to the directory where BIBDAY.EXE resides.
BIBDAY.EXE has an optional parameter that can be specified to tell BIBDAY
where its BIBVERSE.DAY file is located. This is useful so you don't have
to have the BIBVERSE.DAY file in the same path/directory where BIBDAY.EXE is.
Simply use the following format:
BIBDAY C:\BIBDAY
This command will call up BIBDAY and use the BIBVERSE.DAY file from the
C:\BIBDAY directory. This is useful if you have different BIBVERSE.DAY files
you want displayed (place them in different directories). Or you can use
the above line in a batch file to call a special verse file. Note: DO NOT
specify the file name as a parameter (only the drive and pathname). BIBDAY
always looks for a file called BIBVERSE.DAY in the directory you specify.
To have a verse be displayed every time you boot up your PC:
Place the following line as the last line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file which
resides in the root directory of your boot drive (usually C:\):
C:\BIBDAY\BIBDAY C:\BIBDAY
assuming that you made a subdirectory on drive C named BIBDAY that contains
both the BIBDAY.EXE program and the BIBVERSE.DAY file.
To make BIBDAY PAUSE at end of its verse display:
Create a small batch file using an ASCII text editor which runs BIBDAY then
executes the PAUSE command as the next line. When run, the batch file will
run BIBDAY to display a verse, then will say "Press any key to continue" and
wait for a key to be pressed. Sample batch file to do this:
C:\BIBDAY\BIBDAY C:\BIBDAY
PAUSE
Modify the COLORS of the verse text:
You may easily modify the colors that BIBDAY uses to display the text of your
verses. Using an ASCII text editor change line 3 of the BIBVERSE.DAY file
to be a number from the list below representing the color you want used.
Valid color code numbers are 0 through 31. Place the number on line 3 by
itself (no other data). Example: 14
This would use color 14 (Yellow) to display the Bible verse text. Choose
the color from the following color code table:
0 = Black (be careful or you may not see black text on a black background)
1 = Blue (colors 1-6 are dark versions of colors 9-14)
2 = Green
3 = Aqua
4 = Red
5 = Purple
6 = Amber
7 = White
8 = Gray
9 = Light blue
10 = Light green
11 = Light aqua
12 = Light red
13 = Light purple
14 = Yellow
15 = Bright White
Colors 16 to 31 are BLINKING versions of the corresponding 0-15 colors.
Example 16 = Blinking Black, 17 = Blinking Blue, 31 = Blinking Bright White.
Do not use a color code greater than 31 or less than 0!
Also make sure the color code is on line 3 of the BIBVERSE.DAY file!
If you get all black text then make sure you DO NOT have any invalid text
or number on line 3, it must just have the color number and nothing else.
To ADD/DELETE verses from the verse file:
You must make sure that line 4 of the BIBVERSE.TXT file has a single number
alone on the line (nothing else) and it contains the maximum number of
verses in the BIBVERSE.DAY file. This number starts at 129 when you get
BIBDAY as there are 129 verses in the file. If you add or delete any verses,
you must manually change this number to reflect the number of verses there
are, or else BIBDAY will not know the correct number of verses to use. You
may run the BIBCOUNT.EXE program to determine the number of valid verses in
the BIBVERSE.DAY file. The BIBCOUNT program looks for the BIBVERSE.DAY file
in the current directory ONLY. If it does not find the BIBVERSE.DAY file,
you will get a file not found error message.
So to add verses:
Add as many verses as you like in the following format:
verse text may be as many lines as you like, then put a @ character on a line
by itself immediately following each new verse. This tells BIBDAY when the
end of each verse is. Make sure you add one @ character per end of verse.
Save your updated BIBVERSE.DAY file and run BIBCOUNT to count the number of
verses. Then modify Line 4 of the BIBVERSE.DAY to reflect the new number of
verses. Now you are ready to run BIBDAY with the new verses.
To ENABLE or DISABLE CLEAR SCREEN option:
BIBDAY allows you to either ENABLE CLS or have no CLS before the verse text
is displayed. This is personal preference and depends when you run BIBDAY.
This option is specified in Line 2 of the BIBVERSE.DAY file. On line 2 put
either CLS or NOCLS. These are case sensative, they must be upper case only.
Put CLS by itself on line 2 to clear the screen before the verse is displayed
and put NOCLS to not clear the screen before the verse is displayed.
Format of your BIBVERSE.DAY file(s):
Line 1 Copyright message - DO NOT CHANGE THIS LINE
Line 2 CLS or NOCLS (left justified)
Line 3 14 Color number only (no text)
Line 4 129 Maximum number of verses (number)
Line 5-end Verse text
*** Make sure your put an @ character on a line by itself after every
verse to be displayed when adding new verses to the BIBVERSE.DAY file.
--------
This BIBDAY program is dedicated to GOD who has given me new life and
salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. It is also dedicated to my loving
wife, Jodi. Without her help and support this program would not have been
possible. It is my desire that you would be touched by the Word of God
presented by these scripture verses, and desire to know the Lord and Saviour,
Jesus Christ.
